Will You Pray?

The plan today was to post something I've been working on for Weekends With Chesterton.

Instead, I'm asking, or really begging, for prayers.

We got a call this morning that Brian's dad died last night.  Wednesday would have been his 60th birthday.  Please pray most especially for his soul.  He was never a believer but wrestled with the God he couldn't admit existed for most of his life.  His life was a hard one, one that made it difficult for him  to understand that kind of Love.  We lifted countless prayers for him throughout the years.  For his healing of both body and soul, for his conversion, for his peace.   We always hoped for some sort of deathbed conversion.  We're begging God that there was one.  In his deepest self, he was good.  He wanted to believe.  We pray that he is now at peace with the One who's been wanting to love him for so very long.

I would be so indebted to you if you could add your prayers to ours for Bill's soul.  A Chaplet, a Mass, a Memorare, whatever you can do, we so appreciate it.  Thank you so so much.

The day Grumpy met his first grandbaby.

  1. Oh Mary, I will pray. I truly believe that unless someone carries true malice in their heart they would believe when they see His face and that God, knowing what they have lived and what is in their hearts will accept them with love. I will offer many prayers for Bill, Brian, and your family.

  23. + Dear Mary, I will offer a chaplet for him, but would also like to have a Liturgy celebrated for the blessed repose of his soul. My husband is a Byzantine Catholic priest, and will celebrate once he has his full name... Also, there are two stories that I love, in times like these. The first is from the life of St. John Marie Vianney. He encountered a woman who was devastated over the suicide of her husband--assuming he had gone to hell because he died in sin. St. John Marie Vianney walked up to her and said, "Fear not! He made an act of contrition on the way down. Pray, and he will go to heaven soon." And another from the life of St. Padre Pio. Someone found him praying very intensely one day, and afterward asked whom he was praying for? He said, "For the soul of my grandfather." The inquirer responded: "You told me he went to heaven some time ago." "Yes, but he went to heaven then because of the prayers I am saying now." So with great trust in the mercy of God, who is outside of time, we believe that all of the prayers you've offered in the past, and all the prayers we offer now, and will continue to offer in the future, graced his soul at this providential moment. God be with you, to give you peace and consolation.

  24. I am so, so sorry for your loss. Totally praying for you guys and Brian's dad! Dan just found out and walked across the street to Adoration to pray. Please be assured of our love and prayers, for all of you. Our God is a merciful God. Multiply the love you have for Bill by infinity..that's the love God has for Him. "We wait in joyful hope."

  26. Mary, I am so sorry. i wish I could give you and your family a hug as you go through this hard time. My husband and I will keep Bill in our prayers and you and your family as well. I know that the hurting we feel when we lose someone can keep us from seeing or feeling any joys that are there, so I will pray for that too.
