Yarn Along

It's going to be 54 degrees today and this morning it already feels like spring outside.  I even cracked a window in the boys' room upstairs to let in some fresh air.  Have you ever smelled a bedroom occupied by three little boys that hasn't been aired out in five months?  This is much needed, I tell you.  I can't wait to get outside and enjoy the day but thought I'd pop in here first for a little yarn along with Ginny.

I'm excited that I just finished writing another little pattern!  I worked up a pattern for a cabled earwarmer since I couldn't find one that I was happy with.  You can also see me attempt to model it without laughing :)  I hope someone else can use it as well and enjoys knitting it!

Currently, I'm about half way through knitting up a Milo vest for Mister Luke.  My other children so get the shaft in the knitting department.  But baby clothes are so much quicker and fun to knit, not to mention taking one skein of yarn versus three or four!  I'm using Paton's wool in tweed.  I'm in need of some good suggestions of places to buy wool yarn.  Cost is a factor.  The yarns I've been getting (basically Paton's and Knitpicks) just don't seem to wear well.  Is there any way that pilling and fuzzing are avoidable?  I hate to spend time and effort knitting something only to have it look so used up in just a couple of months.  Will higher quality wool fix that or do is there something I'm not doing when it comes to taking care of it?  The Blue Tuesday gloves I just knit already look fuzzy and used which is disappointing seeing that I really enjoy them!

The boys and I are almost finished reading The Jungle Book and the boys really enjoy it.  I didn't realize that it is a collection of stories rather than just one tale.  I love the boys hearing the challenging language it uses!  John Paul and I will also begin Patron Saint of First Communicants:  The Story of Blessed Imelda Lambertini this week as he prepares for his First Holy Communion in May.  I can't believe my little baby is already going to be celebrating this special day and we are doing all we can do to make sure he is as prepared as possible for the awesome grace that the occasion holds.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!  Feel free to stop by Ginny's to see what others are working on!

  1. Thank you for sharing the pattern for the earwarmer and I have found that Peace Fleece doesn't pill but it also isn't the softest yarn either.

  2. I've had luck recycling thrift store sweaters for their wool (basically, unravelling them), but that's mostly been laceweight. I'm afraid my other go-to source is KnitPicks too!
